Much of he month has been spent on transcribing information for the Shalfleet Sources and Customs Cowes pages. The first batch have been included at Customs in the news page and more are to follow.
An update (including several new cards) has been added to the Chale page and a new card (of the Griffin Inn) to the Godshill page .

February/March
07/03/2008 by steve.
Most of the work I have done over the last month or so has been on Customs Cowes page, in particular the addition of Letters Book 1749 - 1810 and 1892 - 1925.
I have also updated 3 of the 4 the Totland pages and page 1 of the Yarmouth page. The index pages of both of these include larger (400 pixel) thumbnails as an experiment.

January 2008
29/01/2008 by steve.
I have added a considerable amount of material to the Customs Cowes page, mainly extracts from Letters Books. Those available are from 1749 - 1810 together with a couple (1892 -1902 & 1902-1905) from a later period, my current project is to take this to 1925 (the latest date from which Books have been released). In addition there is an item about Robert Willis, Boatman at Yarmouth from about 1795-1823.
The postcard pages for Ventnor, Ventnor Esplanade, Ventnor Town (now including two cards of Appuldercombe), Bonchurch and Luccombe, and Ventnor Approaches (from the west) have now been upgraded, nothing major, but a few new pictures.

Happy New Year
01/01/2008 by steve.
I have completed the upgrade to Shanklin series of pages, Shanklin Old Village, Shanklin Chine, Shanklin Esplanade & Godshill.
The Alphabetical list on the Customs page has been updated, mainly from the Ages and Capabilities Book held at the National Archives (1840 -1920) and I am beginning to include longer extracts from Collector to the Board Letters Books (at the moment the middle of the 18th Century).

November 2007
27/11/2007 by steve.
I am still concentrating on Customs Cowes History at the moment, which will eventually appear on the Customs Cowes web page. I have added some transcriptions from Letters Books from the early 20th Century
Pictures have been added to the Ryde Town and around page (St Thomas’s Church and Theatre Royal) and Wootton, Fishbourne and Quarr page (Little Canada).

October update
23/10/2007 by steve.
Not many additions, I am concentrating on Customs History at the moment, which will eventually appear on the Customs Cowes web page. I have changed the background of the page and am looking at other ways of upgrading it.
Pictures have been added to the Ryde Town and around page (Swanmore Church), Wootton, Fishbourne and Quarr page (Entrance to the Abbey farm), and Osborne House page (the Prince of Wales pub near the entrance gate).

Postcard Page
20/09/2007 by steve.
I have upgraded the Ryde Esplanade page and the Seaview page. These have larger thumbnails on the page, and larger pictures if you click on the picture. This reflects the increase in broadband, and will hopefully not be too excessive on dial up.
Other work is continuing on the Customs Cowes page, but it is not yet ready for download.

Shalfeet Sources
02/09/2007 by steve.
I have now uploaded what is effectively the final version of the Shalfleet Parish Records until 1694. Should any further entries become available they will be added.
I hope to be at the Shalfleet Church open day on the 8th September.

Cowes Customs
23/08/2007 by steve.
Good news! Some of the Cowes Records previously held at the Cowes Office and removed by Customs have reached the Isle of Wight Record Office in Newport, particularly the Letters Books 1908 - 1925. It is interesting that the date of 1925 was chosen, effectively 80 years. Certain others old records have not been sent, hopefully they will arrive at the National Archives in due course.
I will be transcribing available 20th Century Letters Books in due course.
